Master's programs mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering and business economics
The degree program with courses totaling 120 ECTS credits lasts four semesters and leads to the academic degree Diplomingenieur - Dipl.-Ing., which is the equivalent of the Master of Science - MSc.
The degree program is divided into general, basic compulsory subjects (15 ECTS), six areas of specialization with compulsory subjects (25 ECTS) and electives (10 ECTS), free electives (5 ECTS) and the master's thesis (30 ECTS).
Six areas of specialization are possible: Production Engineering, Energy Engineering, Computational Engineering and Mechatronics, Engine and Propulsion Systems, Automotive Engineering and Safety, and Economics. Mechanical Engineering students must choose two technical areas of specialization; Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics students must choose the Economics area of specialization and one technical area of specialization.
In the Mechanical Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics master's degree programs, the ITnA also provides support to students from the basic subjects all the way up to the master's degree. The courses focus on the Engine and Propulsion Systems and the Automotive Engineering and Safety areas of specialization.
In the area of basic subjects, the ITnA offers the lecture Advanced Thermodynamics, which builds on the knowledge of thermodynamics obtained in the bachelor's program and expands to include chemical and electrochemical processes.
