Bachelor's programs mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering and business economics
The degree programs with courses totaling 180 ECTS credits last six semesters and lead to the academic degree Bachelor of Science - BSc.
The Mechanical Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics bachelor's programs only differ slightly in the number of electives from the elective catalogue and the number of business subjects. Students with a bachelor's degree are qualified to start the Mechanical Engineering, the Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics and the Production Science and Management (PSM) master's programs.

- Course no. 313.068: 2 VU, 2 ECTS, compulsory subject in the first semester
The IVT is involved in the Lab Project in which students conduct basic measurement experiments in small groups.
- Course no. 313.041: 2 LU, 2 ECTS, compulsory subject in the second semester
Offered in the third semester, the basic subject Thermodynamics introduces the laws of energy that are widely used in all areas of mechanical engineering. Students are challenged to deal with the concepts of work, heat and internal and external energy introduced in the course. Accordingly, the lecture is accompanied by a range of exercises.
- Thermodynamics, course no. 313.100: 4 VO, 6 ECTS, compulsory subject in the third semester
- Thermodynamics, course no. 313.103: 3 UE, 4.5 ECTS, compulsory subject in the third semester
- Thermodynamics Tutorial, course no. 313.104: 2 UE, free elective in the third semester
- Thermodynamics, course no. 313.106: 2 UE, free elective in the fourth semester
The lecture Piston Engines is an application-oriented elective that provides an introduction to how piston engines work and how they are used as pumps and internal combustion engines.
- Course no. 313.005: 2 VO, 3 ECTS, elective in winter semester
The ITnA offers a range of interesting subjects for the Mechanical Engineering bachelor's project and the Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics bachelor's project, the final step in the Mechanical Engineering and the Mechanical Engineering and Business Economics bachelor's programs, see Bachelor's / Other Project Work.
The project consists of a design/experimental part and a theoretical/numerical part.
- Course nos. 303.014 and 303.015: 8 PR, 13 ECTS, compulsory subject in the sixth semester
The lecture Thermodynamics is also a compulsory subject for the bachelor's program Chemical and Process Engineering. A shorter version of the course, Thermodynamics Introduction, also appears as an elective in the Telematics and the Electrical Engineering master's programs.
- Course no. 313.200: 2 VO, 3 ECTS, elective in winter semester
A shorter version of the course, Piston Engines, Introduction, also appears as an elective in the Telematics and the Electrical Engineering master's programs.
- Course no. 313.202: 2 VO, 3 ECTS, elective in winter semester
